A gorgeous Sunday afternoon in May was the setting for bride-to-be Brittany’s candy coloured shower. Guests arrived at her mother’s home for a different take on the traditional. A saturation of colour was in ever decor detail from the handmade tissue paper flowers, fresh floral arrangements featuring the bride’s favourite flower, the gerbera daisy, right down to the candy bar and favours.
Upon entry guest’s were given classic shower games to break the ice, including “Famous Couples” and “Forbidden Words”. Because the home was a series of rooms, none of which was big enough for all 25 guests to sit in we devised a “cocktail style” plan to have guests mingle around from room to room. Each room had an activity or game to encourage guests to move about to participate, while hot and cold appetizers were passed around by friendly and courteous servers. Activities included a scrap booking station where guests who brought their favourite recipe got to decorate a page that would go into a book given to the bride at the end, a wishing tree for guests to leave well wishes and advice for the couple, and various trivia and guessing games.
There was an abundance of good food, good drinks and well wishes for the bride. All in all a perfect way to spend an afternoon as a different twist to the typical bridal shower.
