Theme weddings can be tricky, but a unique theme can result in a fabulous event with a look that has never been seen before. So when Denise from WeDDings Jubliee sent us a couple looking for a Great Canadian wedding we were intrigued. Then we got excited because the couple wanted a colour scheme based on the Hudson’s Bay iconic striped blanket. What a GREAT idea! Who doesn’t love stripes, really. And this fun wedding was even featured in WeddingBells Magazine both in the print magazine and online here! Fabulous photos by Bloom Photography so be sure to check out the feature too!
Shaun and Daniel are all about Canada and sought a simple but rustic look for their same sex wedding. The little gem of a venue, Hotel Ocho, in downtown Toronto features an open work ceiling, brick walls and reclaimed wood floors and was the perfect setting for these intimate nuptials. So we set to work to design simple but natural inspired floral elements while keeping the stripes in mind.
Both Groom’s wore navy blue suits with a Hudson’s Bay striped tie and socks. The white calla lily boutonnieres set off perfectly and were detailed with rustic twine.
For the on site ceremony on the venue’s lower level we crafted two large arrangements of hydrangea, white tulips, hanging amaranthus and various greenery. They perched atop birch planters set in the street level windows for a bit of privacy.
On the upper level the reception space was set with tulips centerpieces on each table. A pair of either red, yellow or white tulip arrangements with ribbon wrap in the Hudson colours alternated each table and added a pop of colour to the space.
Great detail and thought was put into this wedding as each table was set with a Hudson’s Bay striped cracker purchased from the store. Attached to each cracker was a tag with each guests name as a place card, and on the back was a hand written note from one of the groom’s with a personal anecdote. Such a thoughtful detail!
The scrumptious looking cake table featured a simple two tiered cake with butter cream frosting and burlap and ribbon wrap detailing by Rainy’s Cookie Cafe. Additionally personal sized pies, with an adorable heart cutout were displayed tiered wooded racks. Of course we added a little floral and greenery flourish to the display to make it pop.
We loved all the thought and detail that went into this wedding and it was such a joy to see two people so obviously in love share that with their family and friends. Best of luck to Shaun and Daniel on your lives together!
